The land we rest on, grieve on, and celebrate on is the shared ground that connects us all. Our bodies are made of the land and remain part of it. In death, we return to the land’s living cycle. Our breath, the seawater beneath our skin, and the minerals in our bones and eyelashes are shared with the oak, the marmot, and the seal. For many of us living on Turtle Island, the land is occupied. Most of us are living as uninvited guests, settlers on treaty lands where those agreements are still being broken.
Over our time together, we will explore three layers of relationship to land: the physical, felt truth of connection; the memories carried through our people’s generational ties to land; and the clarity of repair and accountability that can help shape what is possible for future descendants. Registered participants will receive a prework guide about a month before we gather. Completing this preparation will help deepen our brief time together. After all, moving at the speed of the land is not the same as moving at the speed of a workshop.
This workshop builds on last year’s gathering, and is open both to first-time participants and those who wish to return. Its focus is practice, including support for long-term practice.
