The Vision Quest, known as Hanblecha, is an initiation ceremony within the Native American Red Road tradition. It is a sacred path of prayer and solitude, created to deepen connection with self, nature, and the Great Spirit present in all things, while seeking vision, purpose, and a clearer direction in life. Held on sacred land in Australia, this experience is offered with deep gratitude and respect within the Roots of the Earth family.
For 4 days and 3 nights, participants fast without water or food while spending time alone in the hills, in prayer and reflection. Each person sits within a dedicated ceremonial space created through tobacco prayers and the sacred circle of the medicine wheel. This time away from the noise of daily life invites a return to nature, to our natural state of consciousness, and to the rhythms and cycles that support a more centered way of living.
More than a simple retreat, this is an initiation and a rite of passage. It offers space to reflect deeply, release the past, and open to a new path. Through solitude and surrender, participants may receive greater clarity, insight, and a renewed sense of purpose, as well as a profound transformation that can shape the way they move forward in life.
Those who choose to quest are ideally supported by one person in camp, someone who prays, eats, drinks, and sweats on their behalf. This support is an important part of the ceremonial container and the experience as a whole.
For thousands of years, Indigenous traditions have honored wilderness prayer and solitude as a way to seek guidance and connection with Spirit. In this lineage, the Vision Quest is a sacred threshold where old identities fall away and a deeper truth begins to emerge. The silence of the land, the support of community, and the presence of the elders create the conditions for remembrance, healing, and insight.
During the quest, sweatlodges are held every day to pray strongly for everyone questing in the hills. If you are not ready to quest, you are warmly invited to join the support team. Whether you are questing or supporting, the experience is described as deeply life-changing, and every contribution is valued.
As part of the support team, you will also have the opportunity to spend time with and learn from Heriberto, the elder from Mexico who will guide the journey. He is part of an intertribal lineage between the Lakotas and Mexicas, and trained with Tigre Perez, who trained under Leonard Crow Dog from the Lakota tribes. This gathering is presented as part of the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Eagle and the Condor, bringing together North, Central, and South American tribes and traditions.
Whether you come to quest or to support, this is offered as a powerful and transformative experience. Aho mitakuye Oyasin — we are all related.
