Traditional mayan marriage union ceremony

This marriage union ceremony is intended only for heterosexual couples, as it is a fertility ritual. It celebrates the union of two beings who love one another.

The commitment is made to love, word, and spirit, with Mother Nature and the natural elements as witnesses. To honor and remember who we are in spirit and matter, permission is asked from the Heart of the Sky and the Heart of Mother Earth before the union begins, while the four directions are honored. Copal and incense are used to cleanse and bless the space.

The altar serves as a sacred place, and the sound of natural instruments connects the earthly world with the heavenly one.

The offerings include cacao as a symbol of wealth and well-being at home, corn as a symbol of food for the human body and a source of energy, pumpkin seeds as a symbol of the awakening of consciousness and intelligence, honey as a symbol of love and sweetness at home, and salt as a symbol of balance at home. Sacred fire is also present: the candlelight represents the wisdom of Yuum Hunab Ku, the energy, and the light of the path.
