The River of Light
Yoga, Culture, Ceremony & Celebration During Diwali
October 25th to 31st, 2027
Join Alison and David in Rishikesh for a week shaped by yoga, sacred rivers, mountain sunrises, music, celebration, and the remarkable spirit of Diwali.
This is a journey between worlds. As India celebrates Diwali, the Festival of Light, and Ireland honours the ancient festival of Samhain, we come together in Rishikesh to reflect, celebrate, and reconnect. Through yoga, meditation, sacred ceremony, music, and pilgrimage, we explore the shared themes of light and darkness, endings and beginnings, and the wisdom held in both.
The Dewa Retreat Hotel has been a favourite of Alison and David for almost a decade.
During your stay, you will have access to the hotel’s beautiful swimming pool and spa, offering an ideal place to rest and unwind. Yoga classes will take place in the stunning top-floor shala, with views across Tapovan and the surrounding mountains.
Every room includes a private balcony with mountain views, creating a peaceful sanctuary.
The food is exceptional, with the Dewa team taking great pride in offering nourishing meals and warm, attentive service.
Also within the hotel grounds is the charming Pure Soul Café, a lovely place to enjoy a coffee, homemade ginger ale, fresh juices, or delicious snacks.
There will also be free time to shop with Alison and explore with David. In addition, several fantastic trips are included in your retreat, with a mix of must-see highlights and hidden gems.
Devi Ashram Concert
Devi Ashram is a very special place devoted to classical Indian music. It is where Alison studied singing and mantra chanting.
Ganga Arti
Each evening, the Ganges is honoured by locals and visitors alike. We will take part in the famous celebration at Parmarth Niketan in Ram Jhula.
Kunjapuri Temple
This is a true pilgrimage. Leaving at 4.30am, we travel by bus to the path that leads to Kunjapuri. Gather with fellow travelers to watch the sunrise.
Beatles Ashram
This was the training centre for students of Maharish Mahesh and gained international attention in 1968 when the Beatles studied there and created the “White Album”.

Getting there
There are many ways to reach Rishikesh, and flying to Delhi is recommended. If travelling from Ireland, BudgetAir.ie is suggested.
From Delhi, you can continue by flight, taxi, or train.
Although travel and visas are each person’s responsibility, Alison is available to talk you through the options and share the benefit of her experience. She can also help with onward travel within India if that is part of your plan. Everyone is different, and that is fabulous.
