Temazcal in Cancun offers a rare chance to slow down, step away from the noise, and enter a unique jungle experience. This private nature-based ceremony takes place far from tourism, yet is still only 20 minutes from Cancun airport.
The temazcal is an ancestral ceremony of Mesoamerican origin. Its name comes from the Nahuatl word temazcalli, meaning “house of steam” (temaz = steam, calli = house).
The ritual unfolds inside a closed clay structure where hot volcanic stones are placed. Traditionally, these stones are known as “Grandmothers,” symbolizing ancient wisdom and the memory of the Earth, with a special connection to OMA, which means grandmother in Dutch. Water infused with herbs is poured over the stones, creating warm steam that surrounds the body.
This guided experience brings together heat, breathing, and an intimate setting to open space for deep relaxation, connection, and well-being. At OMA, the temazcal is offered as a meaningful encounter with nature, guided with care, respect, and safety.
