There are many ways to approach shamatha and many expressions of mindfulness. In this retreat, participants will explore shamatha-mindfulness practice through the lens of the Mahamudra tradition.
The Mahamudra tradition points to the discovery of innate wisdom within every part of our experience, both on and off the cushion. Rather than treating emotions as obstacles, this approach encourages us to look directly into them as sources of inspiration and insight.
Khenpo Karma Tenkyong, the resident teacher at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra, will share clear guidance on the Mahamudra approach to sitting meditation. His teaching is especially valuable for practitioners at all levels. A respected dharma teacher, he is known for his deep knowledge, broad experience, familiarity with Western students, and sensitivity to the needs of individual practitioners.
For newer meditators, the retreat will include straightforward instruction in shamatha meditation from the Mahamudra perspective.
For more experienced meditators, it offers a chance to deepen practice within a strong container under the guidance of a highly qualified teacher from the Karma Kagyu tradition.
For everyone involved, this retreat is an opportunity to gather in sangha and experience the support of community, the strength of the container, and the living inspiration of the Karma Kagyu lineage.
Khenpo Karma Tenkyong is a senior teacher in the Karma Kagyu lineage and an important representative of that lineage in the West. He is recognized for a dynamic, engaging teaching style and for his ease in working with Western practitioners.
He is also known for meeting people where they are, adapting his approach to the needs of those in the room. Many of his students speak of the genuine heart connection they experience with him, leaving the retreat not only with valuable teachings, but also with a meaningful connection to the lineage.
Khenpo Tenkyong places strong emphasis on practice after the retreat as well. He will share guidance on how to continue practice at home and how to integrate retreat experience into daily life. He will also offer a reading transmission for a short daily practice to take home.
