Reiki is an ancient healing art developed by Dr. Mikao Usui, rooted in the Japanese words rei and ki—understood as Universal Spirit and Life Energy. Together, they point to the universal life force that surrounds us and flows through us continuously. This subtle energy is not usually seen with the eyes, yet it is described as a real frequency that permeates all living things.
Reiki is not a religion and is not tied to any sect, cult, or belief system. It welcomes all philosophies and ways of thinking, offering a simple yet profound approach to energy work and healing.
How does Reiki work?
Reiki supports the body’s natural ability to heal by helping restore balance where stress, tension, and unhelpful thought patterns may have created blockages. When life energy flows more freely, the body, mind, and spirit are better able to return to harmony. A Reiki session is intended to encourage relaxation, inner balance, and a deeper connection to one’s own healing capacity.
During the process of attunement, also called initiation, a Reiki teacher facilitates an alignment with the Reiki lineage and system. This transmission is an essential part of the training, allowing the student to become a channel for Reiki energy. It does not mean that life’s challenges disappear, but it can strengthen the connection to universal life energy and support healing, awareness, and personal growth.
Why learn Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle and accessible healing system that can be learned by anyone. It is often used as a complementary therapy alongside traditional and Western medicine, and it may support physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. It is also considered a safe and nourishing practice that can encourage self-empowerment, stress reduction, and inner peace.
Among its many applications, Reiki may be used for first aid, for animals, children, and anyone experiencing imbalance. It can also deepen insight, creativity, and self-understanding while supporting spiritual development.
Why we offer Reiki courses
Reiki is seen as a beautiful foundation for working with energy, connection, healing, and growth. It can support grounding, balance, and integration in both personal and spiritual practice. For this reason, it is considered highly complementary to Teacher Plants work.
At Willkamayu Spirit, Janneke is initiated in Tibetan Usui Reiki. Reiki is practiced worldwide, and while different traditions exist, they are all connected to the Usui natural healing method. Even if you completed Reiki 1 elsewhere, you can still be initiated into this tradition to ensure alignment within the same Reiki branch.
Who will teach the course?
Janneke will facilitate the Reiki courses at Willkamayu Spirit. She is a qualified Reiki Master and Teacher who uses Reiki in her daily spiritual practice to ground, cleanse, balance, and recharge. She also works with Reiki in ceremonies and for energetic space cleansing, and she is happy to share this practice with others.
Additional details
After completing the course, you will receive a Reiki certificate and a Reiki manual. Reiki 1 is required before moving on to Reiki 2, and support toward Reiki Master certification is available through further discussion and dedication.
