In response to recent news concerning Shambhala and the Sakyong, the People of Color sit has been cancelled indefinitely.
When a space is intentionally created for People of Color to gather in community and friendship, it can be deeply restorative and healing. In partnership with Oakland Shambhala, we are pleased to offer a setting where, alongside fellowship, POC may also find nourishment and inspiration through the Shambhala teachings and the practice of meditation.
This evening includes a guided meditation, followed by sitting practice, group discussion, and a social gathering. Both first-time meditators and long-time practitioners are warmly welcome.
When: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month
Time: 8-9:30 p.m.
Where: Oakland Shambhala at Temescal Arts Center, 511 48th St, Oakland
This gathering is open to anyone who self-identifies as a person of color.
$5-10 Suggested Donation NOTAFLOF (No One Turned Away For Lack of Funds)
A Message from the Oakland Shambhala Council:
At Oakland Shambhala, our intention is to offer more than a physical space for meditation. We aim to create a place to reflect on what it means to practice, including questions related to social justice. As part of this effort, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays have been designated as evenings for People of Color to practice. 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, along with any 5th Tuesdays in a month, will continue as open practice nights for all participants. Open practice will also remain available to our membership at Berkeley Shambhala on Sunday mornings at 10 am, and on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings at 7 pm. We encourage you to share the word.
