Opening Inward: Exploring the Enneagram and Holotropic Breathwork®

Opening Inward: Exploring the Enneagram and Holotropic Breathwork®

Description

This immersive workshop explores how Holotropic Breathwork® and the Enneagram can support healing, the longing for transcendence, wholeness, and a deeper connection with our Divine Nature. Participants are invited to experience the powerful therapeutic potential of Holotropic Breathwork®, a transformative breathwork practice designed for self-exploration, inner work, and healing. With eyes closed and resting on a mat, you will be guided by your own breath and the music in the room into an expanded state of consciousness. In this state, the natural healing intelligence of the breather — often called the “inner healer” — can come forward to guide the process.

Holotropic Breathwork serves as a doorway to the unconscious, helping bring hidden material into awareness so it can be accessed, processed, and released. Across cultures and throughout history, expanded states of consciousness have been used as pathways for transformation and healing. Its therapeutic benefits may include easing trauma and grief, supporting anxiety and depression, aiding recovery from addiction, deepening spiritual insight, strengthening connection to self and others, and opening the heart to compassion and love.

The Enneagram adds another layer to this journey by helping us reconnect with the truth of who we are — our divine self. As we return to ordinary consciousness, the question becomes how to integrate that truth into daily life and within our own ego structure. An ancient teaching and a powerful tool for transformation, the Enneagram can reveal the unconscious patterns that keep us disconnected from our True Nature. Through understanding our personality type, we gain insight into the deeper essence beneath our habitual behaviors.

According to the Enneagram system, there are nine facets of personality, though no one fits neatly into only one type. Still, by reflecting on lifelong patterns, most people can identify a dominant type. From a spiritual perspective, our primary type represents the way the soul seeks to return to the Divine. When paired with breathwork, the Enneagram can help restore alignment, resonance, and connection to True Nature. This retreat focuses on experiential learning rather than a purely cognitive approach.

Included in this retreat are:

  • An introductory talk on Holotropic Breathwork and the Enneagram
  • Four Holotropic Breathwork® sessions, with two as breather and two as sitter
  • A sound healing session
  • Exploration of the connection between the Enneagram and the Holotropic Breathwork lineage
  • Teaching on Enneagram theory, including the three triads and the relationship between ego and Essence
  • Large-group demonstrations and small-group work
  • Embodied exercises linked to the somatic experience of your Enneagram type
  • Nature-based practices
  • Sharing circles
  • Mandala drawing

This workshop is open to new and experienced breathers, members of the Grof Transpersonal Training community, the Grof Legacy Training community, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, and anyone interested in Holotropic Breathwork or the Enneagram. It is approved by Grof Transpersonal Training for the double breathwork requirements of the online training modules, and by Grof Legacy Training for their breathwork requirements. No prior knowledge of the Enneagram is necessary. Those unfamiliar with the nine type structures, or with their own type, may choose a pre-retreat preparation Zoom LIVE session with one of the Enneagram facilitators.
