An eclipse is a profound alignment between the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. Each year, there are usually four to six eclipses, and they occur on New Moons or Full Moons. Their energy is considered about three times stronger than that of a regular New Moon or Full Moon. Eclipses always arrive in pairs, with one typically followed by another, and they return roughly every six months.
A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the Moon and the Sun, blocking sunlight from reaching the Moon. During this time, the Moon may appear red, orange, brown, or may seem to disappear altogether. Taking place on a Full Moon, a lunar eclipse is an especially intense lunation and is often associated with endings, turning points, revelations, and completions.
Eclipses often bring some of life’s most joyful and most challenging moments — from promotions and breakthroughs to separations, relocations, marriages, business launches, childbirth, and other major life events. They can also bring unexpected meetings and partings. Their purpose is to support evolution, even when the process feels intense. Lunar eclipses are especially emotional, helping to dissolve what no longer works and encouraging us to face hidden fears, feelings, and shadow aspects of ourselves.
From an astrological perspective, eclipses move through pairs of zodiac signs over a period of about 18 to 24 months until the cycle is complete. They establish themes that unfold over the following six months, and their influence can often be felt in the month before they arrive. Their meaning is also shaped by the planetary aspects present at the time of the lunation, so an eclipse cannot simply be labeled “good” or “bad” without a deeper astrological view.
