Lomi Lomi bodywork is a deeply nurturing form of massage, introduced in Nepal for the first time at Purna Yoga Retreat. Rooted in the ancient traditions of Hawaii and Polynesia, this bodywork technique was once used as a rite of passage for those reaching adulthood, as well as a ritual for people preparing to make important decisions or moving through transitional stages of life.
Often described as the “loving hands” massage, Lomi Lomi reflects the true spirit of this practice. The therapist works intuitively with the client, using long, flowing strokes with the forearms and hands to massage the body from head to toe. The rhythmic rocking motion can feel like being carried by gentle waves, while the therapist’s dance-like movement around the massage table supports a free and natural flow of energy between giver and receiver, inviting balance and harmony. The session also includes stretches, joint rotation, under-body work, and full-body strokes that guide the receiver into deep surrender and complete relaxation.
More than a physical treatment, Lomi Lomi bodywork supports healing on mental, emotional, and spiritual levels, offering a journey of self-discovery. Many people leave with a sense of acceptance and release, letting go of long-held unresolved issues. On a psychological and emotional level, this bodywork may help ease fear and anxiety while supporting greater emotional stability.
