Discover the untamed charm of Ladakh on an immersive Himalayan journey that brings together high-altitude scenery, ancient monasteries, remote villages, and legendary mountain passes. Thoughtfully paced for acclimatization, this itinerary blends scenic drives with cultural discovery and off-the-beaten-path highlights such as Nubra Valley, Turtuk village near the Indo-Pakistan border, and the striking Pangong Lake. It is ideal for travelers drawn to dramatic landscapes and authentic Himalayan heritage.
Day 01 – Arrival in Leh
On arrival at Kushok Bakula Airport in Leh (3,500 m), you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in and a full day of rest to support acclimatization to the altitude. The schedule is intentionally gentle so your body can adjust to Ladakh’s thin mountain air. In the evening, visit the serene Shanti Stupa for panoramic views over Leh town, then continue to the historic Leh Palace, set above the valley. End the day with a relaxed walk through Leh Market before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 02 – Leh Local Sightseeing | Sham Valley Excursion
After breakfast, set out for a Sham Valley excursion. Begin at the Hall of Fame museum, maintained by the Indian Army, where Ladakh’s military history and culture are presented in detail. Continue to Spituk Monastery and Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, linked to Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Experience the curious Magnetic Hill phenomenon and then take in the remarkable meeting point of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, where the two waters merge in contrasting colors. Enjoy the mountain scenery along the way before returning to Leh for the night.
Day 03 – Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass
Travel to Nubra Valley through Khardung La Pass (5,359 m), one of the world’s highest motorable roads. The drive is filled with breathtaking views and dramatic shifts in terrain. On arrival, visit Diskit Monastery, home to the towering Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Later, head to Hunder, known for its cold desert sand dunes and rare double-humped Bactrian camels. An optional camel safari is available before checking into your camp or hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Nubra Valley.
Day 04 – Nubra Valley Excursion to Turtuk Village
After breakfast, enjoy a full-day excursion to Turtuk, a culturally distinctive village near the Indo-Pakistan border and one of Ladakh’s most intriguing offbeat destinations. Once part of Baltistan, it offers a different culture, architecture, and way of life from central Ladakh. Stroll through traditional settlements, meet local residents, and take in the views of orchards and surrounding mountains. Visit Thang, the last accessible village near the border, subject to permissions. Return to Nubra Valley by evening for an overnight stay.
Day 05 – Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake via Shyok Route
After breakfast, drive to Pangong Lake via the scenic Shyok River route, passing remote Himalayan villages and rugged landscapes along the way. This less-traveled road offers striking mountain views throughout the journey. Arrive at Pangong Lake (4,225 m), famous for its shifting shades of blue across India and Tibet. Spend time enjoying the peaceful setting and photographing the lake’s beauty. Dinner and overnight stay will be at camps near Pangong Lake beneath a star-filled sky.
Day 06 – Pangong Lake to Leh via Chang La Pass
Wake early to witness sunrise over Pangong Lake before breakfast. Then begin the return drive to Leh, crossing Chang La Pass (5,486 m), one of Ladakh’s highest mountain passes. Along the route, enjoy spectacular Himalayan scenery and photo stops. Upon reaching Leh, check into your hotel and spend the evening at leisure exploring local cafés or markets. Dinner and overnight stay in Leh.
Day 07 – Departure from Leh
After breakfast, transfer to Leh Airport for your onward journey, taking with you lasting memories of Ladakh’s vast landscapes, monasteries, high passes, and unique Himalayan culture.
