These retreats are for you if: you feel a sincere call toward deep emotional and inner work; you are ready to meet yourself honestly, even when it feels uncomfortable; you can be radically honest with facilitators and the team; you feel stuck, disconnected, anxious, or unlike your true self and know there is more you want to create, express, and experience; you are ready to live more from the heart than the mind; you want to reconnect with nature and live in right relationship with the Earth; you are willing to take preparation, dieta, and integration seriously; you understand this work is not a quick fix but an ongoing relationship of care, respect, reciprocity, and learning with ayahuasca; you are prepared to continue the work afterward through therapy, coaching, or integration guidance; you are in a meaningful life transition; and you long to be deeply held in a supportive group healing environment.
These retreats are not for you if: you want a recreational or casual psychedelic experience; you are unwilling to make meaningful life changes; you are not ready to invest energy and money into preparation or integration; you are seeking a purely relaxing vacation-style retreat; you cannot pause certain medications or refrain from substance use for the required period; you are attending mainly to support someone else rather than your own healing; you have a history of seizures, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or mania that may be incompatible; you are not in a place to invest in your healing or lack support at home; or you are not open to communal healing, sacred ritual, trusting the team, or receiving wisdom from the Shipibo lineage.
At Anam Cara, every retreat is curated with deep integrity and respect for the Shipibo curanderos and the indigenous plant medicine they steward. The team works in lifelong friendship with 3 families of Shipibo healers, relationships rooted in trust, reciprocity, and love. These maestras and maestros are among the most respected and experienced lineages of the Amazon Rainforest, and their ancestral wisdom lies at the heart of the work.
Whether in the jungles of Costa Rica or high in the Andes of Peru, each location is chosen with intention. These sacred spaces are selected to support conscious community, the power of nature, and deep healing. The land, its energy, and its culture all shape the ceremonial experience, while collective prayer strengthens the work both inside and beyond the ceremony space.
Reciprocity is also central to the retreat philosophy. The venues are chosen for sustainability, organic food, conscious design, and a relationship with nature that goes beyond a standard vacation setting. Comfort and support are thoughtfully prioritized so you can focus fully on your inner work.
Sample program: Ceremonies are the sacred center of the journey, surrounded by daily practices, workshops, and integrative modalities such as breathwork, embodiment practice, mindful movement, sharing circles, and more. Each day is designed to help release blockages and limiting beliefs, awaken fuller expression, and ground the medicine into practical, lived experience. Every retreat remains responsive to the needs of the group in real time.
