Indigo moves at its own pace. Through folding, binding, stitching and immersion, each piece develops gradually, revealing its pattern only when the cloth is opened at the end. Set at Wester Auchraw Croft near Loch Earn, within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, this is a calm, hands-on creative experience for anyone wishing to slow down, work with natural indigo dye and discover the beauty of Japanese shibori. Every result is unique.
The day unfolds gently. You are introduced to traditional Japanese shibori methods, including folding, binding, wrapping and simple stitch resist. The cloth is lowered into the indigo vat, left to oxidise and dipped again, building up rich layers of blue over time. There is space to work, pause and return. Tea is shared. Nothing is hurried. By the end of the day, you will have created something entirely personal: a cloth or silk scarf shaped by your own hands, your pace and the quiet unpredictability of the dye. No previous experience is required. All materials are included.
A slow, immersive day focused on cloth, pattern and natural indigo dye. You will learn a selection of Japanese shibori techniques and make your own hand-dyed piece to take home.
