Radiant Balance: Yin & Yang — A Biodanza immersion into the heart
18th – 20th September 2026
with Niraj and Anna
When words are no longer enough, the body can become a wise guide.
This is an embodied journey through the terrain of loss, where healing is found not by avoiding grief, but by learning how to move with it.
Grief is part of the human experience, yet it is often pushed aside, hidden, or left unspoken. At one extreme, we stay busy and distracted; at the other, we can feel overwhelmed and unable to move. This retreat offers a different way: a safe and supportive space to honour loss, rest deeply, and make room for joy without guilt.
Through the practice of tending, you are invited to go beyond the taboo, meet sadness with compassion, and let dance open a path towards freedom.
Begins on: Fri 18th September at 17:00
Ends on: Sun 20th September at 17:00
Duration: 3 days / 2 nights
Hosted by: Niraj & Anna
Biodanza is a non-verbal practice that allows the full range of human emotion to be expressed safely through movement. Rather than explaining what we feel, we let the body speak—whether that is sadness, longing, anger, or tenderness.
Using themed vivencias of 2 hours or more, the retreat creates a dedicated container for grief-tending. Movement becomes a bridge between grieving and living, helping to soften stuckness and ease the pull of distraction.
Dancing in a group also reminds us that grief does not have to be carried alone. Shared movement offers warmth, support, and a sense of belonging.
Radical Permission for Joy: Biodanza honours the Biocentric Principle, placing life, instinct, and pleasure at the centre. It gently reminds us that returning to vitality is not a betrayal of loss, but part of the natural rhythm of deep restoration.
Curious newcomers who want to experience Biodanza for the first time in a safe and held space.
People moving through loss who feel stuck in their heads or in their lives, and want a physical way to process emotion and reclaim joy.
Past students and graduates of the Dorset School of Biodanza, or other schools, who wish to reconnect with the practice and its community.
Teachers and facilitators seeking nourishment, inspiration, and the chance to be held rather than hold space for others.
Lovers of movement and music who trust in dance as a path to healing and human connection.
Supporters of the next generation of Biodanza facilitators, wishing to witness the growth of the practice through Niraj and Anna’s collaboration.
Anyone longing for restoration, rest, laughter, and the freedom to feel alive again.
Niraj has directed the Dorset School of Biodanza since 2006 and has led four cycles of the teacher training. Anna is the most recent graduate from that system, having completed it this past February. Together, they bring a deeply supportive presence to this weekend, combining years of therapeutic experience with heartfelt facilitation.
Niraj & Anna: Masters of Energetic Flow
Both facilitators have a strong intuitive sense for the energy in the room, helping to bridge the inner world of sorrow with the shared support of the group.
Niraj brings a deep understanding of the Biocentric Principle and knows when the group needs stillness and when it is time to invite vitality back into the body.
Anna’s connection to the divine heart supports the release of emotional blocks and gently guides participants toward inner wholeness and transformation.
Friday: The Courage to Feel
Vitality & the Physicality of Grief
After a nourishing meal sourced from Leela’s organic grounds, movement helps soften the initial sense of stasis.
Through the line of Vitality, we begin to reconnect with our heartbeat. We do not move to get over pain, but to become strong and fluid enough to carry it.
Saturday Morning
We begin with a sharing circle, offering space for feelings to be witnessed by the group, followed by:
The Permission to Bloom
Creativity & the Art of Living
Using the line of Creativity, we explore the movement between the life that was and the life that is emerging. This is not about making art, but about discovering beauty, expression, and new shapes of being in the wake of change.
Saturday Afternoon
There will be time for rest and recuperation, with the option of quiet time in nature or journaling for reflection, followed by:
The Reclaiming of Self
Sexuality & the Sensual Soul
In Biodanza, Sexuality relates to pleasure and the desire to live. Here, we gently release guilt and reconnect with the simple enjoyment of music, sunlight, and togetherness.
By re-sensitising the body to pleasure, we support the long-term work of grieving and remember that joy can exist alongside loss.
Saturday Evening
An open space for whatever the group most needs in the moment. This may include more dance, more sharing, a ritual sauna, or a bonfire for further release. The direction will be decided together on the day.
Sunday Morning: The Heart That Holds Everything
We bring together Affectivity, our capacity to love and be loved, with Transcendence, our connection to something greater than ourselves.
Through dance, we move from the personal “I” into the communal “We,” discovering belonging beyond individual loss.
Grief is universal, yet many of us have little space to express it openly. Instead, we are often expected to carry on and keep our feelings hidden. Over time, unspoken pain can become trapped in the body, leading to dis-ease.
This workshop matters because it offers a collective way to honour loss, give emotion room to move, and rewrite how we relate to grief. It is an invitation to stop merely surviving and begin moving with what is true, returning to wholeness and aliveness.
