Finding Goodness in a World on Fire

Finding Goodness in a World on Fire

Description

At a moment when the world can feel fractured, uncertain, and emotionally heavy, it is easy to become disconnected from our own goodness—and from the goodness we can still recognize in others. This weekend retreat offers a steady place to pause, reflect, and reconnect. Through guided meditation, contemplative practice, dharma talks, and open-hearted dialogue, we will explore how to return to our inherent worthiness and compassion, even when life feels difficult.

Drawing on the accessible, grounded teachings from Lodro’s international bestseller The Buddha Walks into a Bar, this retreat welcomes both beginning and experienced meditators. The invitation is simple yet profound: basic goodness is not something we need to earn or achieve, but something already present at the core of who we are. Together, we will look honestly at both personal and collective suffering—not to remain in discouragement, but to strengthen our ability to meet reality with courage, clarity, and care. Over the course of the weekend, we will nurture a practice that supports our own well-being while deepening our recognition of the dignity inherent in others—friends, strangers, and even those with whom we disagree. In this way, we can begin to move beyond burnout and cynicism toward a more sustainable path of compassion and resilience. Come as you are. Whether you arrive hopeful, heartbroken, or completely worn out, this retreat offers an invitation to slow down, touch what is true, and rediscover the goodness that continues to shine beneath the surface.
