Set out on a memorable nature adventure that begins in the late afternoon and continues into the night, offering a rare look at El Yunque Rainforest as day gives way to darkness.
Nearly 60% of the rainforest’s inhabitants are nocturnal and are seldom seen during daylight hours, making this guided walk especially fascinating. You’ll enter the forest about one hour before sunset and follow a nature trail that combines manmade and natural paths as it leads toward the scenic Mameyes River. Along the way, your guide will share insights about the rainforest’s daytime flora and fauna before the landscape begins to change with dusk.
If weather conditions allow, there may be an opportunity to cool off in Las Damas Pool, one of El Yunque’s most beautiful natural swimming holes. Otherwise, you can simply unwind by the riverbank and listen to the water moving over the rocks.
After about thirty minutes, the walk back begins just as twilight settles over the forest. This is when the experience becomes even more striking: daytime animals prepare to rest while nocturnal life starts to emerge. The air cools, dew points rise, sounds grow louder, and new scents fill the forest. Bats take flight, Puerto Rican screech owls may be heard in the distance, insects come alive, and 17 species of tree frogs begin calling. Aquatic life also becomes more active as El Yunque awakens in the evening.
Enjoy the rainforest while it sleeps, then leave as it comes to life again. This Puerto Rico rainforest tour is an unforgettable experience.

EYT checks weather conditions daily, with safety as the top priority. Forecasts are monitored through NOAA, Wunderground, and Weather.com. If any two forecasts show a 50% or higher chance of rain, winds above 18 knots, or a risk of thunderstorms, the tour will be canceled for that day. A representative will contact you by email, text, or phone to let you know about the cancellation and, if possible, help you reschedule. If rescheduling is not possible or the weather does not improve during your stay, your booking cost will be refunded.
Transportation is not included. A rental car is strongly recommended, as access for this tour is currently available only by private or rental car. Taxis may enter the forest only if they have a forest permit and only during park operating hours in the daytime. Taxis are not permitted after 6:00 p.m., and Uber is not allowed in the forest at any time. Transportation arrangements can be assisted for groups of 10 or more.
