Bats, beaches, and Bali Aga heritage come together on this full-day journey. Departing toward Klungkung, we turn off to Kusamba, a beachside center known for fish processing and salt production, with views across to Nusa Penida. From there, we continue to Pura Goa Lawah, the “Bat Cave Temple,” a sacred site linked to environmental balance and the interconnectedness of life. Here, we pray at the temple-cave, whose vast, bat-filled passage is said to run deep into the hill and, according to legend, all the way to Besakih, the Mother Temple.
Afterward, we cross the road for a quiet moment of reflection on the beach, gazing toward Nusa Penida. The route then leads to Candidasa and the Bali Aga village of Tenganan, where ancient pre-Majapahit traditions are still preserved, including the sacred, naturally dyed Gerinsing double ikat weaving.
About 15 minutes from Candidasa, we park and walk down to a peaceful white-sand bay for a fresh grilled fish lunch and young coconut, with time for a swim if you wish. We return via a scenic back road with beautiful views of the coastline and surrounding hills. (9.00 – 17.30).
