Set in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in the small town of Taray, about 40 minutes from Cusco, this shamanic ceremony is designed as a profound Andean experience of cleansing, reflection, and inner change. Rooted in the traditions of Cusco’s shamans, it follows a sequence of rituals intended to support a shift in personal reality and invite a better quality of life.
The ceremony begins at around 6:00 pm, when the fire is lit and kept burning until approximately midnight, with the option to continue afterward if desired. The shaman will guide you to a special ceremonial space prepared in the style of Inca times. As with all Andean ceremonies, the ritual starts by asking permission from the Andean divinities: the great mountains and Pachamama, Mother Earth. Three coca leaves are selected and offered as part of this opening.
Next, participants receive Agua Florida, a highly aromatic perfume used throughout Andean ceremonies. After that, the Wachuma, also known as San Pedro, is consumed. Around an hour later, its relaxing effects begin to emerge. The experience is accompanied by Andean music with zampoñas and other traditional instruments, creating a gentle trance that sharpens the senses without loss of consciousness. The silence and calm of the setting support a deep and very pleasant healing process.
The effects of the medicine are understood as working with each person’s habitual way of thinking in a unique yet shared human experience. The mind, which is always active, is invited to slow down rather than stop. Like a car that reduces speed from 100 kilometers per hour to 80, the ceremony helps thoughts become calmer and more spacious, while still remaining alert and aware. In this quieter state, internal stillness and the sounds of nature can nourish the experience.
Sacred plants are seen as catalysts for transformation and inner alchemy, often described as a symbolic process of death and rebirth. Each person moves through this process in their own time. As the medicine is digested and its effects gradually settle, a sense of peace and freedom may arise, leaving participants ready to return with a renewed perception of life and of themselves.
