About Markus Henning Giess
Since 1990, Markus has accumulated more than 10,000 hours of training experience in dance, yoga, massage, bodywork, anatomy, meditation, and energy work. With over 30 years of experience, he is considered one of the most experienced specialists and one of the most recognized Yin Yoga and anatomy teachers in the German-speaking world.
His love for yoga was strongly inspired by the internationally known Power Yoga icon Bryan Kest. Together, they completed a 350-hour teacher training in Mexico. Through Bryan, Markus discovered Yin Yoga and the distinctive teaching of Paul and Suzee Grilley. Today, he is a devoted Yin practitioner and has assisted Paul and Suzee since early 2015.
The Grilleys’ extensive training covers outstanding subjects such as Yin Yoga, yoga anatomy, individual skeletal structure, chakra meditation, and yoga philosophy, including the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita.
Markus also completed a Yin/Yang Yoga & Meditation Teacher Training with Sarah Powers, the founder of Insight Yoga. Her approach, which brings together yoga insights with Buddhism, Taoism, and transpersonal psychology, is deeply inspiring and beautifully complements the Grilleys’ teachings.
He further trained with Karla Brodie and Neal Ghoshal, distinguished teachers of Restorative Yoga, who introduced him to their unique approach, “The Art of Rest,” in their teacher trainings.
Markus has practiced Vipassana meditation for 30 years and has been teaching it for more than 15 years. As a Reiki master and energy work teacher, he also completed an intensive professional Thai massage training at Wat Po in Bangkok, one of the world’s most respected schools. He had the honor of training with true masters of the ancient healing touch known as Nuad and the Thai Yoga Massage tradition of RueSi DatTon.
Before dedicating himself fully to this path, Markus spent 16 years on stage. As a professional dancer and musical performer in productions such as Cats, Elisabeth, and Buddy Holly, as well as a freelance choreographer and presenter, he worked in Germany, England, Scotland, and Switzerland.
His comedic talent and ability to weave together his deep knowledge as a performer, yogi, and body therapist make his trainings and workshops stimulating, insightful, and memorable experiences.
Today, Markus offers his Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Trainings and workshops in German across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Together with his New Zealand partner Karin Sang, he also leads English-language trainings in Asia, New Zealand, and Australia.
