THE FIELD OF CONSCIOUSNESS
“The body is the maṇḍala of the eternal play of Shiva and Shakti.” — Abhinavagupta. You are invited to an extraordinary retreat of yoga with Christian Pisano, internationally recognized as one of the most distinguished Iyengar Yoga teachers. Over this weekend, he will share more than three decades of deep study and practice, bringing together Iyengar Yoga and Kashmir Shaivism, a philosophy to which he feels a strong and lasting affinity. His offering is a joyful wandering, a direct guide toward the evidence of Consciousness. There is nothing to seek outside ourselves: we are already what we long for, even if we have not yet recognized it. This is an invitation to remember what is innate, spontaneous, and beyond any system.
Christian has practiced Iyengar Yoga for more than thirty-five years, yet his journey has also been shaped by unlearning and dismantling everything he had absorbed, in order to distill what truly touched his heart—what belongs to no system. He sees himself as a wanderer of yoga and embraces this joyful wandering as the very heart of his exploration. His approach points toward the evidence of Consciousness: we already are what we seek. He gives priority to spontaneous instruction arising from the heart of each asana, as well as to the recognition of a living pedagogy that is innate to us, though often forgotten.
In his youth, he spent several years in India studying with his teacher, deepening his knowledge of philosophy and Sanskrit. His philosophical interest leads him toward the non-dual perspective of the Trika system, more commonly known as Kashmir Shaivism. It is also worth noting that he is one of only three people to have received B.K.S. Iyengar’s Advanced Senior Diploma. He is the author of works such as La contemplation du héros, Le désert du Thar, and Le grognement de l’ours.
The retreat will take place on November 5, 6, and 7, 2027. The schedule is designed to balance stillness, physical practice, and inner inquiry:
Where? The meeting point will be at Matrika Yoga School, located at Calle Sierra de la Estrella 10, Alcorcón, Madrid. The venue is very accessible, just a 3-minute walk from Parque Lisboa Metro Station (Line 12) and 10 minutes from Puerta del Sur Metro Station (Line 10).
