Experience one of Montenegro’s most memorable outdoor journeys as you paddle through the pristine landscapes of Lake Skadar, the largest lake in Southern Europe. Over five full days on the water, you will cover around 80 km, with arrival and departure days framing a week of adventure, discovery, and time to unwind. Along the way, you’ll explore a national park rich in wildlife and scenery, from pelicans and wetlands to open water and quiet river channels. Evenings are spent camping in tents beside the shore, beneath a sky full of stars, with the chance to learn new skills such as fishing, bird-watching, and paddling. This holiday is ideal for nature lovers, families, and active travelers with a reasonable level of fitness who want to experience the outdoors in a different way.
The minimum recommended age is 14, although exceptions may be considered for exceptional children. Please check if you believe your child may be suitable. Prior paddling experience is essential, and this holiday is designed for guests who are comfortable with an active itinerary.
We care deeply about preserving the places we visit. When you book, a percentage of your payment is donated to selected local environmental or community causes for the year. All services in destination are provided by licensed local partners in line with local regulations.
All boats are provided, with expedition kayaks now replacing the Z-Pro inflatables shown in some photos and video. Tents, sleep mats, safety gear, and cooking equipment are also included. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and some of your own food.

Day 1 – Arrival
Transfer from your arrival airport to Virpazar, where you will settle into your bookend accommodation and get to know the group. This is also the time to organize your supplies and prepare your gear for the adventure ahead. Group dinner.
Day 2 – Rijeka Crnojevića to Dodoši
After breakfast in Virpazar, transfer to the starting point on the northern shore of the lake, about 50 minutes away. Paddle the dramatic serpentines of the Crnojević River, passing Pavlova Strana, Montenegro’s most famous viewpoint, before continuing up the Karatuna River to the village of Dodoši. Camp here for the night and enjoy dinner at a floating restaurant beside the river. Swimming and jumping spots are plentiful. Paddling distance: 17 km.
Day 3 – Dodoši to Poseljani
Begin with a visit to the old fortress of Žabljak Crnojevića, once the capital of the Montenegrin medieval kings. From the hilltop, you’ll see the route for the day laid out below. Continue along the Karatuna through willow forests and back toward the lake, then move through a maze of old fishermen’s channels to reach Poseljani, a village known for its waterfalls and plunge pools and once home to 14 watermills. Paddling distance: 14 km.
Day 4 – Poseljani to Morača River
Paddle through the narrower part of the lake between lilies and islands, heading toward the mouth of Skadar Lake’s largest tributary, a bird-rich area hidden between two dense rows of willows. Before the final stop, pause on the riverbank to meet the hosts of a bushcraft camp, share food, and enjoy wild swimming. Then continue into the more cultivated part of the Morača delta and stay at a charming eco resort with drinks on the terrace above the water, excellent food, and comfortable bungalows. Paddling distance: 12 km.
Day 5 – Bushcraft Course Day
Focus on navigation, fishing, foraging, preparing food in nature, and the safe use of tools as you put your new skills into practice in the setting of this remarkable national park.
Day 6 – Morača to Murići
Continue around the rest of Vranjina Island and enter the wider part of the lake, with mirror-like reflections of the water, the slopes of Rumija Mountain, and the Albanian Alps beyond. Highlights include Grmožur Prison Island, Raduš oko bay, the village of Krnjice, and the island group of Murići, where you will stop at a beautiful beach for a swim and camp for the night. Paddling distance: 21 km.
Day 7 – Visit to Beška Monastery and onwards to Ckla
Finish the kayaking adventure with a route through the widest part of the lake, covering 14 km with wide-open views toward the Albanian shore and mountain peaks on both sides. The Murići Islands are home to several Orthodox monasteries, mostly built in the 14th century, and you will visit the most beautiful one on Beška, the largest island in the area. Here you can also hear the legend of King Vladimir and his wife Kosara, along with stories about the region’s religious and cultural diversity and the traditions of the Albanian people who live here. The program ends just a few metres from the Albanian border in Ckla village. After leaving the kayaks, travel to Ostros to see the remains of Montenegro’s oldest church, old mills, and an ancient chestnut forest. Enjoy the hospitality and cuisine of Ostros before returning to Virpazar for your final night. Paddling distance: 17 km.
