Montenegro is far more than a summer escape. In the country’s mountainous north, alpine conditions and a newly expanded ski center in Kolašin are helping to shape an exciting winter sports scene. This seven-day holiday brings together the best of the region in winter for travelers who love snow, adventure, and a change of pace.
As one reviewer noted, “Emma and Ben have set out to change everyone's understanding of skiing in this hidden gem…there's far too much conviviality, beauty, charm and heaps of good food to keep wintertime Montenegro to themselves.”
Over the course of the week, guests can snowshoe, ski, snowboard, take a night hike, and enjoy sledging while discovering Montenegro’s dramatic alpine landscapes with local hosts and guides. The program is designed to suit a wide range of interests, making it a memorable multi-activity break for winter enthusiasts.
Your home for the week is a welcoming, family-run wooden cabin complex, located just a 90-minute drive from Podgorica Airport and a short shuttle ride from Kolašin Ski Centre. Here, 45 km of managed runs are available for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Beginners and those needing a refresher can join an introductory class on the easier slopes with fully licensed, English-speaking instructors. After that, the itinerary opens up to three full days of skiing or snowboarding. The week also includes a day trip to UNESCO-protected Durmitor, where you will visit Savin Kuk ski center and the famous Black Lake, with spectacular views along the way through Tara Canyon.
By combining skiing or snowboarding with snowshoeing and community-based experiences, this holiday offers a more sustainable way to explore the mountains. Step away from the ski centers and into Montenegro’s untouched wilderness on foot, where you may follow animal tracks in fresh snow and experience a more authentic side of the region. One day includes a visit to an artisan cheese farm and a traditional shepherds’ katun village for lunch. Evenings are spent by the fire with hearty home-cooked meals, mulled wine, and rakija brandy at the cabins’ small restaurant, or simply relaxing before the next day’s adventure.
On the final day, a late departure gives you the opportunity to go from ski to sea with a visit to Montenegro’s Adriatic coastline, just two hours away.
This holiday welcomes all abilities, including families, couples, and groups of friends. The minimum age is seven, or six for exceptional children already accustomed to outdoor winter sports. Group size is limited to eight.
