To cleanse the aura and karma from past lives, support chakra alignment, and clear illness, Balian Taksu invites the participant to return for an evening Melukat on an auspicious date such as Kajeng Kliwon, purnama (full moon), tilem (new moon), or another significant day in the Balinese calendar. Guided by insights received in trance, Taksu selects the type and amount of fresh flowers to be immersed in holy water (tirtha) for the purification ceremony.
A Balinese healer in a white sarong performs the Melukat cleansing at a sacred site with waterfalls and a natural spring.
The seeker sits on a stool opposite the shrine and the vessel filled with sacred water and flowers. Balian Taksu then enters a naga trance, chants mantras, and asks the participant to meditate on a specific concept or deity. After that, he pours the holy water and sacred flowers over the head of the person seeking purification.
