For many people, chronic tension becomes so familiar that it feels normal. Even when treatment offers short-term relief, the same tightness, pain, or limitation often returns. Over time, the body may lose its ability to fully release certain muscles, creating patterns of strain that can feel deeply ingrained.
During this retreat, you will be introduced to Clinical Somatic Education: a gentle movement method that supports the return of voluntary control and body awareness within the nervous system. Instead of pushing muscles to stretch or depending on passive treatment, the practice uses slow, mindful movements and pandiculation to help the brain relearn how to let go of chronic muscular contraction.
Held on the Pacific coast of Mexico at Mar de Jade Retreat Center, this week offers space to step away from everyday demands and reconnect with your body in a supportive, restorative setting.
Each morning session will focus on common stress-related tension patterns in the body, including the back, shoulders, neck, hips, breath, and feet. Martha’s teaching combines guided movement with hands-on support, helping participants discover greater ease, awareness, and coordination.
Afternoons are intentionally open for rest and integration. You may spend time by the ocean, unwind in a hammock, enjoy the tropical surroundings, or join optional activities offered by the retreat center. On select days, optional late afternoon movement sessions will also be available.
The schedule is designed to stay spacious, balancing focused learning with generous downtime so the nervous system has time to absorb and integrate the work.
Whether you are new to Essential Somatics or returning to deepen your practice, this retreat is created to meet you where you are and offer practical tools you can continue to use long after the week is over.
