A Foundational Practice of the Vajrayāna Buddhist Path
14th – 21st September, 2026
About the Retreat — Ngöndro, or the preliminary practices, form the essential basis of the Vajrayāna Buddhist path. Deep and transformative, these practices can shift our values, turn the mind toward the dharma, and prepare us as suitable vessels for the teachings and methods that lead to enlightenment.
What to Expect in the Retreat — This retreat is open to participants with a wide range of experience in Buddhism. A complete Ngöndro practice typically includes meditation and contemplation on the truths of existence, taking refuge, cultivating compassion and confidence, purification practices such as Vajrasattva practice, the accumulation of merit through mandala offering, and finally Guru Yoga, where we uncover our original, unconfused nature.
All of these sections will be covered through formal teachings, instructions, and instructor-led practice sessions, while also allowing plenty of space to integrate the teachings into personal practice. As the retreat unfolds, the number of teachings and guided sessions will gradually decrease, and the emphasis will move toward intensive individual and group practice.
A typical day includes 4 sessions, totaling eight hours of practice daily. Morning sessions begin early, and the final session usually ends at 8pm. It is important and advised to attend all sessions throughout the retreat.
