Day 1 – Arrival
Travel into the mountains along a spectacular scenic road to the village of Vusanje near the Montenegro-Albania border, where you will spend the next two nights. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Vusanje.
Day 2 – Hiking the Prokletije
Today’s 3-peak trail begins in the beautiful Grebaje Valley in Prokletije National Park, part of the long-distance Via Dinarica route. After a steady two-hour climb through pine forest, the path opens into alpine meadows and streams before rising to a ridge with extraordinary views over dramatic karst cliffs. Continue around the Karanfil and Volušnica peaks, at one point walking along the border between Montenegro and Albania, before returning via the forest trail. Overnight in Vusanje. Hiking distance: 13km. Grade: moderate.
Day 3 – Komovi Mountains
The Komovi Mountains are three striking, rocky peaks, each above 2,400 metres, surrounded by forests and valleys in Montenegro’s sixth National Park. Starting from Štavna Eco Village, the route follows a mostly flat dirt road before climbing over rocky sections and moraines. The final approach to Vasojevički Kom leads to a breathtaking ridge with sweeping views of Prokletije, Bjelasica, Sinjajevina, Durmitor, and distant peaks in Albania and Kosovo. Overnight in Kolašin. Hiking distance: 9km. Grade: moderate/challenging.
Day 4 – Bjelasica Mountain
After two days in rugged terrain, today brings a gentler landscape in Biogradska Gora. Bjelasica offers rolling hills, green pastures, valleys, lakes, blueberry bushes, and mountain flowers. Beginning near Troglava restaurant, the trail passes through forest and shepherd huts to Troglava peak (2,035m), then continues to Zekova Glava peak (2,089m). Descend to the lake for time among the meadows and maple trees, with the option of a swim, before circling back. Overnight in Kolašin. Hiking distance: 15km. Grade: easy/moderate.
Day 5 – Rest Day
After three days of hiking, enjoy a well-earned rest day. In Kolašin, you’ll be close to the town’s cultural centre and St. Demetrius Church, and can choose to stroll locally or take a taxi to Dulovina Botanical Garden or Lake Biograd. If you prefer to relax, a slow morning, a good book, and an easy evening meal in town are also ideal. Overnight in Kolašin.
Day 6 – Lola Mountain
Hidden in the central Montenegrin highlands, far from main roads, Lola Mountain is a peaceful and little-visited place. Its broad plateau is covered in grass and framed by peaks above 2,000 metres, with pastureland that has long drawn summer herders from the lowlands. Today’s hike climbs Veliki Zebalac peak (2,129m), with the option to extend to Mali Zebalac (2,073m) and Borova Brda (2,006m). The trail has no technical sections, only open scenery, shepherd huts, and wildflowers. Overnight at Calimero Apartments or similar. Free evening. Hiking distance: 14km. Grade: easy/moderate.
Day 7 – Durmitor Mountain
The final hike takes place in UNESCO-protected Durmitor National Park, known for its exceptional scenery, 48 peaks above 2,000 metres, and 18 glacial lakes, or “mountain eyes.” Today you’ll gain a bird’s-eye view of two lakes on the ascent to Prutaš (2,394m). With its colourful vertical layers of karst rock, this peak is considered by many local climbers to be the most beautiful in the Durmitor massif. The climb is challenging in places, with some steep sections, but no specialist equipment is needed. Celebrate the week with a final dinner and drinks. Overnight at Calimero Apartments or similar. Hiking distance: 10km. Grade: moderate/challenging.
