Many guests ask what makes Villa X so special, and why we return to this corner of the world again and again. It is not only about surfing and yoga. This place offers so much more: a relaxed rhythm, a welcoming community, and an atmosphere that makes it easy to feel at home.
We first arrived for the waves, and this area truly is one of the best places to find good surf throughout the year. But what kept drawing us back was the warmth of local life and the simple, friendly way of living that defines the region.
This retreat has been designed as an introduction to Moroccan culture and the Berber heritage, giving you the chance to meet inspiring local people and discover why this is our favourite place.
During the week, we will explore the hidden history beneath the waves at a well-known surf spot, visit Agadir souk and our local souk in Banana Village, and go behind the scenes to see how Moroccan treasures are created. We will also visit local cooperatives producing traditional Berber carpets and argan oil products, with recommendations for the best local shops if you would like to find a good bargain.
One of the highlights will be a hike in Paradise Valley in the stunning Anti Atlas Mountains. Our friend Youssef from Amazigh Hike and Yoga was born there and knows the area inside out. He will guide us along a less-travelled route and share insights about local customs, traditions, vegetation, and the best places to swim in the natural pools.
We are also invited to enjoy a home-cooked lunch in the house of a local Berber family.
Another wonderful guide to Berber history and culture is Brahim, who created the first Berber museum in the area and owns one of the most beautiful gardens in Alma. With him, we will spend a full day engaging the senses: first visiting the museum, then heading to the souk to buy ingredients for a traditional homemade tagine.
After that, we will continue to the garden, where we will learn about the Moroccan tea ceremony, the tradition of henna, and enjoy a cooking class led by local Berber women who will share their favourite spices and family secrets.
We will also take a scenic road trip up the coast to Essaouira, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a beautifully preserved fortified city on the Atlantic coast. There will be time to walk through the city centre, see the walls, harbour, and souk, and enjoy free time to wander the streets, take in the views, and choose a lunch spot. We will meet again for dinner at a local restaurant before returning along the coastline.
Throughout the week, you will have plenty of free time to enjoy surfing, shopping, long beaches, a good book on the rooftop, or a hammam or massage.
We are located in the heart of Tamraght, a small village with a laid-back atmosphere and warm, loving people. The villa is just 5 minutes from the beach and 2 minutes from local cafes and shops. With chill-out areas, workspaces, quiet corners indoors and outdoors, and unforgettable sunsets from the rooftop, it is the perfect place to connect, unwind, and make new memories.
