Ayurveda Stress Management Therapy

Ayurveda Stress Management Therapy

Description

Ayurveda therapies for stress relief are offered in 14-, 21-, and 28-day formats, with a holistic focus on restoring balance to both body and mind.

In Ayurveda, stress is seen as one of the root causes behind many difficulties in life, affecting physical health, emotional well-being, relationships, family life, work, finances, and spiritual harmony. A calm mind is considered essential for true well-being, because even when life appears full of comfort, success, or support, it is difficult to fully enjoy any of it without inner peace.

The yoga and Ayurveda approach practiced at the ashram is designed to help guests reconnect with their body-mind, appreciate what they already have, and step away from the constant pressure of wanting more. Since body and mind are understood as deeply connected, the program aims to ease stress from the nervous system while encouraging full-body relaxation.

Alongside Ayurvedic therapies, the program includes supportive elements such as proper diet, yoga, pranayama, meditation, and lifestyle adjustments. The quiet natural setting of the ashram is intended to nourish the body-mind, support balanced rhythms, and create a more settled state of being. The therapy follows a gradual, multi-layered process:

  • Stage 1: Relief of stress held in different organs of the physical body at a deeper level.
  • Stage 2: Support for the cardio-respiratory system, including blood circulation and lung capacity.
  • Stage 3: Improvement of the nervous system and nadis in the pranic body.
  • Stage 4: Support for the endocrine glands and hormonal balance, which are closely linked to emotional balance.

This program is especially suitable for people experiencing stress from work or a demanding lifestyle. For anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, or other psychological concerns, it may offer support, but it is not a substitute for professional care. In such cases, additional help from psychiatry, psychotherapy, Reiki, or other specialists may be needed. Yoga philosophy and psychology lectures offered at the ashram can also provide helpful guidance for the mind and daily life.

The Ayurvedic treatments included in this program may consist of:

  • Swedana – herbal steam therapy to help loosen toxins.
  • Abhyanga – warm oil massage for rejuvenation.
  • Pizhichil – oil bath therapy for muscular toning.
  • Shirodhara – a rhythmic flow of medicated oil on the forehead for nervous relaxation.
  • Shirovasthi – medicated oils retained on the head using an elongated cap for nervous rejuvenation.
  • Thalam – herbal decoctions applied to the crown of the head for relaxation.
  • Thalapothichil – medicated paste applied to the head for nourishment of nervous tissue.
  • Njavarkizhi – full-body massage with medicinal rice gruel in a pouch for stress relief.
  • Elakizhi – therapeutic massage with warm herbal pouches.

Please note that this is a general treatment list. Based on age, medical condition, and Ayurvedic dosha imbalance, the doctors will decide which therapies are suitable and how long each one should last.

Contraindications

The stress management programme is not advisable during pregnancy or lactation, or for people with:

  • Alcohol or drug dependency.
  • Cardiovascular diseases.
  • Congestive cardiac failure.
  • Myocardial infarction.
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders.

Ashram lifestyle

The therapies are most effective when combined with the suggested diet, yoga, meditation, and a relaxed lifestyle in natural surroundings. Treatments for this program change every three days, and daily timing may fall anywhere between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm, depending on the treatment schedule for that day.

An example of the daily routine is:

  • 06:00 am Meditation* (morning session only when yoga retreats are running)
  • 06:30 am Herbal drinks
  • 07:00 am Yoga*
  • 09:00 am Breakfast
  • 01:00 pm Lunch
  • 04:00 pm Yoga*
  • 05:30 pm Meditation*/mantras/nature walk
  • 07:00 pm Dinner
  • 08:00 pm Video/chanting (optional)

* Ayurveda treatment packages include one yoga session and one meditation session per day, six days per week. Reducing physical and mental strain is recommended for the best results.
