With Greg Gurel
Learning to meet anger with clarity, safety, and responsibility can become a powerful step toward advocating for yourself and shaping the relationships and life you truly want.
Anger is one of the emotions people most often fear, largely because it is so frequently mistaken for violence. In this program, a key teaching is that anger and violence are not the same. While anger is sometimes expressed in harmful ways — physically, verbally, or emotionally — that is an unsafe, unboundaried use of anger meant to control or hurt. In its safe and boundaried form, anger is a natural human emotion that can be expressed non-violently, with passion and vitality, and in ways that support healthy relationships.
Participants will have opportunities to both express and witness anger in safe, boundaried ways. This can be especially meaningful for those who have expressed anger violently in the past and want a different path now. It is also valuable for people who believe they never feel anger, or who learned early in life to avoid anything that might resemble it because of violence or fear. For both groups, emotional, physical, and relational patterns may have been affected. This program opens the door to new possibilities, whatever your history with anger or violence may be.
Originally developed by the late Joann Peterson, the program follows a gradual progression. Participants begin by examining their beliefs about anger, then explore where anger comes from and the many ways it can be expressed. From there, they are invited to gently investigate their own energetic patterns and experiment with a range of personal and relational tools for expressing anger more effectively.
