This 50-hour Remedial Yoga Teacher Training was developed by Maria Kirsten and is delivered by Bec Isaacs. It offers a deeper, more integrated way of understanding yoga, with a focus on applied anatomy, individual needs, and a holistic approach that goes beyond asana. The training is designed for yoga teachers and yoga students who want to expand their knowledge, and it is also open to non-teachers.
The course price starts from $2,660 and includes tuition, all meals, and 5 nights in a quad-share room with a shared bathroom. Other accommodation options may be available at an additional cost, subject to availability. Early bird pricing starts from $2,510 for bookings made more than 8 weeks before the course begins. You can also book the 4 Day Yoga for Seniors and 6 Day Remedial trainings together to receive a $300 discount, plus one complimentary night between the two trainings.
If you are already a yoga teacher, this course may be eligible as a work-related self-education tax expense.
Byron Yoga Centre’s 6 Day Remedial Yoga Training was created by Maria Kirsten, a senior yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and occupational therapist who passed away peacefully in April 2021 after a short cancer illness. Maria was deeply committed to an individualised approach to yoga, and she generously shared her knowledge with her devoted student and assistant teacher, Bec Isaacs.
Bec has carried Maria’s teachings forward and adapted the Remedial Yoga manual to reflect both Maria’s approach and her own emphasis on a holistic foundation that reaches beyond asana. This training is ideal for teachers, current yoga teacher trainees, and experienced practitioners seeking to deepen their understanding of applied anatomy and develop a more therapeutic approach to yoga.
Our Byron Yoga Centre team brings warmth, integrity, and many years of experience to this training. With a genuine passion for teaching, they support your journey with care and presence.
Bec teaches traditional hatha yoga with correct Purna alignment and thoughtful modifications for students. She places strong emphasis on body awareness, functional movement, and breath, guiding students toward the subtler dimensions of practice.
Her calm, centred teaching style supports mental steadiness and prepares students for meditation. Bec holds a university degree in Kinesiology, Biology, and Psychology, and has completed over 1000 hours of study with Byron Yoga Centre, Creature Yoga, and The Practice Bali.
Marita is the Head Teacher Trainer at Byron Yoga Centre. A gymnast from an early age, she discovered yoga and quickly felt at home in the practice.
She began teaching Iyengar-influenced yoga in 2002, later exploring vinyasa yoga and the freedom of linking movement with breath. Today, her teaching is best described as alignment-based vinyasa.
Marita aims to share the peace and happiness she experiences through yoga, encouraging students to build strength, breathe deeply, stand tall, and live with compassion.
Maria Kirsten was a senior yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and occupational therapist. This biography is shared in honour of her memory and in recognition of the many lives she touched through her work.
Known for her vibrant spirit, graceful teaching, and deep compassion, Maria shared her wisdom and heart with the Byron Yoga Centre community for many years, as well as through her own project, Yoga for Grown Ups. She was committed to making yoga accessible to all, always with warmth, integrity, and a sense of humour.
You will receive a certificate of completion, and the training counts as 50 hours toward Byron Yoga Centre’s 300-hour Teacher Training Program.
This 50-hour training may also be counted as CPD (Continuous Professional Development) for Yoga Alliance (YACEP) and Yoga Australia.
Across this 50-hour training, you can expect yoga classes, theory sessions, practical teaching opportunities, and time to rest and reflect.
