Level 1: Embodied Foundations

A 100 Hour immersion in Costa Rica

Embodied Foundations is an invitation to arrive more fully in your body, your breath, and your presence. This first-level training encourages you to slow down, reconnect, and cultivate a deeper relationship with your practice. Through embodied movement, functional anatomy, personal development, breathwork, and reflection, you will strengthen awareness, confidence, and trust from within — without any pressure to perform or teach.

Created for dedicated practitioners and aspiring teachers, this 100-hour training is designed for those who want to deepen their personal practice, understand their body more clearly, and build lasting confidence before stepping into a teaching role.

Set in the peaceful coastal village of Playa Negra, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, this experience offers space to slow down, fully immerse, and reconnect in a supportive and inspiring setting.

Yoga Styles Studied

• Vinyasa Yoga – intelligent flow, modern sequencing, and sustainable movement
• Hatha Yoga – foundational alignment, breath, and presence
• Gentle Yoga – accessibility, nervous system care, and inclusivity

These widely taught styles prepare graduates to teach with confidence across global yoga markets, including studios, retreats, private sessions, therapeutic settings, and wellness programs.

What You'll Explore in Level 1

Embodied asana foundations rooted in awareness, breath, and integrity; functional anatomy and intelligent movement for longevity and ease; breathwork and nervous system regulation for resilience and presence; sequencing principles for Vinyasa, Hatha, and Gentle classes; yoga philosophy as lived practice rather than doctrine; and confidence-building through understanding instead of performance or pressure. There is no requirement or expectation to teach during Level 1. This module is about learning, feeling, integrating, and trusting your own experience first.

Program Features

The program includes immersive coastal learning, daily yoga and meditation, embodied anatomy, accessible sequencing, and a supportive mentorship environment. Students also benefit from small-group connection, guided practice teaching options, ongoing integration support, and the flexibility to continue learning through the global virtual community with lifetime access. This experience is designed to nourish both personal practice and professional growth.

Daily Structure

Each day in Level 1 begins with a meditative walk to the beach, giving body and mind time to settle into the day. A grounding beach meditation is followed by gentle, mindful movement to awaken awareness and ease into practice. The schedule then unfolds through embodied asana, functional anatomy, breathwork, discussion, and integration, paced intentionally to support nervous system regulation, presence, and deep learning.

Core Modules

1. Embodied Asana Foundations
   Explore Vinyasa, Hatha, and Gentle Yoga through breath-led movement, functional alignment, and embodied awareness, with an emphasis on sustainability, accessibility, and personal practice.
2. Functional Anatomy & Movement Intelligence
   Study applied anatomy for yoga practice, including joints, fascia, muscles, and range of motion, to support longevity, resilience, and self-awareness.
3. Breathwork, Pranayama & Nervous System Regulation
   Practice breath-based techniques that support regulation, awareness, and stress resilience, alongside foundational nervous system education.
4. Sequencing as Personal Practice
   Understand how sequences affect the body and nervous system through intelligent pacing, energetic arcs, and transitions across Vinyasa, Hatha, and Gentle Yoga.
5. Yoga Philosophy as Lived Practice
   Explore yoga philosophy through real-life application, including ethical foundations, mindfulness, and self-inquiry.
6. Meditation & Mindfulness Practices
   Experience seated, embodied, walking, and nature-based meditation practices that cultivate presence, awareness, and inner stability.
7. Gentle Yoga & Restorative Foundations
   Practice gentle and restorative-inspired approaches with an emphasis on nervous system support, accessibility, rest, and recovery.
8. Energetics, Subtle Body & Felt Awareness
   Gain an accessible introduction to subtle anatomy through sensation, breath, and attention, and learn to notice energetic shifts within the body.
9. Self-Inquiry, Reflection & Integration
   Use journaling and group discussion to support the integration of physical, emotional, and experiential learning.
10. Nature-Based Practice & Presence
    Bring outdoor and ocean-side practices into the experience to deepen embodiment, sensory awareness, and connection to the environment.

Practices take place in three favorite Playa Negra locations: on the beach, beachfront, and at a cozy town studio with AC.

After completing Level 1: Embodied Foundations, students may complete the second 100 hours by joining the Yoga Teacher Training Mentorship Program. This global virtual pathway offers flexibility, support, and ongoing guidance at your own pace. Enrollment includes lifetime access to all training materials, the private online forum, and live monthly meet-ups with the international trainee community. Students may also schedule 3 x 1:1 mentorship sessions and receive unlimited classes with Playa Negra Yoga, available on Zoom and in person, for continued learning, inspiration, and connection while completing the 200-hour certification.
