Urias Garcia Junta carries the Shipibo name “Neten Beso,” which means “to awaken the world or the universe.” He was born in the native community of Nuevo Nazare and is the father of two boys, aged 8 and 5. Coming from a family lineage of medicine practitioners, Urias grew up surrounded by relatives who worked with plant medicine, and he began learning from the plants at a very young age.
One of his earliest memories is from age 5, when he was unwell and his mother brought him to a ceremony for healing with his uncle. He was deeply moved by the icaros, and by the next morning he was already singing the same songs he had heard the night before. That moment led his family to recognize that he would one day become a healer.
Urias feels called to support others in their healing while honoring his ancestry and carrying his lineage forward. He also holds a deep concern that many Shipibo people no longer value their roots and cultural traditions, and he hopes to help preserve these customs so they are not lost. He especially enjoys spending time in the communities with elder healers, listening to the stories of his people and culture. At the Temple, he values the sense of family and community, and the shared wisdom and love offered to patients.
