Urgyen Gyalpo is a classically trained Himalayan artist recognized for authentic Buddhist Thangka painting. From 1996 to 2006, he studied at the respected Tsering Art School in Kathmandu, Nepal, training under master painter Venerable Konchog Ladrepa. His education centered on the Karma Gadri style, an Eastern Tibetan tradition celebrated for its spacious landscapes and luminous, clear colors.
In 2004, he joined a UNESCO workshop in Nepal focused on Thangka restoration and conservation. He later contributed major mural and fresco works at Shechen Monastery in Bodh Gaya, India, and Khawalung Monastery in Nepal, including depictions of the Life of the Buddha and the terma revelations of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.
His work has taken him abroad, where he has restored sacred artworks and completed new commissions. As a resident artist at Riwoche Temple in Toronto, he decorated the main prayer hall with intricate murals, patterns, and sacred symbols.
Today, Urgyen continues his artistic practice through traditional Thangka painting, realistic art, line illustration, graphic design, and custom logo work.
