Tim Geil began practicing Insight Meditation in 1996 and has been teaching meditation since 2006, guided by Rodney Smith. In 2016, he completed the four-year Residential Retreat Teacher Training with Spirit Rock, Insight Meditation Society, and Insight Retreat Center. That intensive training was led by Joseph Goldstein, Jack Kornfield, Carol Wilson, Gil Fronsdal, Guy Armstrong, Andrea Fella, Trudy Goodman, and Phillip Moffitt.
His teaching centers on three expressions of the Dharma: investigation, non-resistance, and compassion. He points to daily life as a personalized spiritual path, especially when we are willing to explore the places where we feel contraction and resistance. In doing so, we begin to see the suffering created by the illusion of a separate self. Investigation is balanced by a deep willingness to rest in non-resistance and compassion. For Tim, non-resistance means relaxing fully into this moment, while compassion invites sensitivity and kindness toward every part of ourselves. From there, the heart can soften into stillness.
As a Co-Guiding Teacher of Seattle Insight Meditation Society, Tim offers talks, classes, interviews, and retreats. He also serves on the board of directors, working closely with leadership and volunteers at SIMS. His life experience includes being a husband, father, wilderness ranger, martial artist, hospice volunteer, and massage therapist. His relationship with his wife and daughter is a joyful and essential part of his dharma practice.
