Hello, I’m Sophie, founder of PilateStar and an expert Pilates teacher.
I’m a Body Control Pilates Teacher, a Back4Good® Practitioner, and a Bone Health Specialist.
I first established my business in Dulwich, South East London, and have since relocated to Spain, somewhere between Alicante and Valencia. From there, I continue to run my Dulwich business remotely, while also offering 1:1 online sessions, Pilates video courses, and 1:1 home visits near Monte Pego, Spain.
Technique is at the heart of my teaching. Whether you’re just starting out or already advanced, I enjoy observing, making corrections, and helping you get the most from every movement. I communicate clearly and always like to explain the purpose behind the exercises.
I’m especially interested in working with people who experience back pain, as well as those who are physically active or passionate about sport. For around 10 years, I spent a great deal of time taking my son to tennis clubs and tournaments, as he played tennis at a performance level. My partner is a tennis coach, personal trainer, and enthusiastic weightlifter, which further deepened my interest in supporting people who enjoy sport as a hobby.
At the moment, I work with clients who play tennis, lift weights, run, take on challenges, and play golf. Tennis players and golfers both rely on highly technical movements that place significant demands on the shoulder and hip joints, as well as the spine. Pilates can support this by helping to prevent injury, ease stiffness, and reduce post-game soreness. Most importantly, it can increase awareness of your strengths and limitations. Sport and Pilates make a powerful combination.
Alongside my work with active clients, I also have a strong interest in low back pain. This comes partly from my own experience of hip and back pain, which is part of my personal journey. As a qualified Back4Good® practitioner, I understand what it means to live with pain and how to work toward reducing it.
It’s often surprising that ongoing chronic back pain may not be caused directly by the spine itself, but instead by limitations in other key joints, a lack of core stability, or an unhelpful awareness of habitual movement patterns that contribute to discomfort. As a Back4Good® practitioner, I can also liaise with your GP or consultant to support your referral and help design the most suitable programme for you.
