Drawing on a background as both a music teacher and school administrator, Sarah St. Onge, PhD, M.M.Ed, SEP, MIT, has long supported children, adolescents, and families. Today, she brings that experience into her private practice as a clinical psychologist in the Mid-Hudson Valley. She also serves as Director of the Integrative Trauma Program at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP) in New York City, where she co-chairs and teaches in the Certificate Program in Trauma Studies.
Sarah’s approach to trauma work is rooted in a holistic understanding of healing. She is trained in body-mind modalities including EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. As a Certified EMDR Therapist and Approved Consultant, she leads several EMDR Consultation Groups, trains EMDR Consultants-in-Training, and serves as a Facilitator for EMDR trainings. In her role as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), she also works as a Training Assistant with Somatic Experiencing International. Returning to her musical roots, Sarah’s certification in Music and Imagery (MIT) enables her to bring deep listening and drawing experiences into her work with clients of all ages.
Sarah is an active member of the Social Justice Committee of the Hudson Valley Guild of Mental Health Professionals and contributes to community action projects such as The Hungry Ghost Training and Retreat. She has found particular meaning in preparing this presentation for front-line workers affected by opioid abuse and the overdose crisis. With lived experience of substance abuse in her family, she values the chance to learn from others and to share in a collective healing process.
