Richard Freeman has explored yoga since 1968, when his practice began with a single seated posture from the Zen tradition. His path later led him to spend nine years in Asia, where he immersed himself in yoga asana, Sufism, Sanskrit, and Indian philosophical texts, all while engaging with the complex political realities of the era. In 1974, he began studying with B.K.S. Iyengar, deepening his understanding of precise alignment and integrating it with a practice rooted in inner experience.
Drawing on these diverse contemplative traditions, as well as his long-standing interest in Buddhism, Richard teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga with a thoughtful, informed approach. His work reflects both technical clarity and spiritual depth, offering students a practice that is disciplined, insightful, and grounded in decades of study.
