Matsini

Matsini

Description

Matsiní Vena Yawanawá comes from an interrupted lineage of pajés (master shamans), from his legendary grandfather, son of the first Yawanawá who made contact with the outside world.  Matsiní was actively taught by his grandfather and uncle – also named Matsiní – an honor to whom he got his name.

He also apprenticed with the late grand shaman elder Tatá who made the Seya (introductory prayer) for Matsiní’s Muka diet at very young age of 17.  One of the youngest in the Yawanawá tradition  to successfully complete this diet, Matsiní’s entire adult life has been dedicated to the shamanic path.

For the more than 20 years Matsini served his community, while learning from his elders, and building his knowledge of Amazonian plant medicine.  Eventually he would successfully comlete the Yuvé Shupa (Trombeta) diet — becoming the only person in modern times to do so.

Matsini works with many plants and makes numerous types of Rapé (Rumē) for his ceremonies.  He’s also a Kapum specialist (Kambo).  He’s a talented musician and has a commanding, yet comforting presence in ceremony.  Learn more about Matsini and Aroa
