Mary is deeply drawn to time outdoors and to sharing that connection through active experiences. She brings a thoughtful framework of gradual stages that helps people access areas they may not have reached before, building both movement and confidence along the way. Her teaching style is calm and warm, with a sincere interest in everyone she meets.
Her adventures have taken her climbing around the world, with her first abseil in Australia. She often climbs in dependable climates such as Spain during the Northern Hemisphere winter, and at other times in Britain. She has also swum in remote glacier-fed lakes in Kyrgyzstan and high-altitude oxbow lakes in Zimbabwe, though she feels most at home swimming or paddle boarding on Windermere, the longest lake in England, near her home in the Lake District. She has swum the length of it a couple of times, and the most beautiful place she has ever paddle boarded is the coastline of Pembrokeshire.
An experienced and qualified teacher of outdoor activities — and maths — she holds qualifications in climbing, kayaking, first aid, caving, and hill walking.
