Mark Nunberg began practicing meditation in 1982, shortly after graduating from Princeton University with a degree in Economics. In 1993, he co-founded Common Ground Meditation Center in Minneapolis with his wife, Wynn Fricke, and he still serves there as Guiding Teacher. His studies have included both Asian and Western teachers, with lasting inspiration drawn from the Buddha’s teachings preserved in the Pali Canon.
He has practiced in monasteries in Thailand and Burma, where he ordained as a Bhikkhu for a five-month retreat. More recently, he has studied with Sayadaw U Tejaniya during his visits to the U.S. and continues to be inspired by the Thai Forest Ajahns. In 2013, Mark and other leaders at Common Ground Meditation Center purchased 46 acres of rolling fields and woods in Western Wisconsin to develop a new country retreat property. Since 2003, he has led residential Vipassana retreats, including at Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. He remains a grateful student of the Buddha’s teachings.
