Born in 1984 in Caco Macaya, Alto Ucayali, Maestra Karina Garcia Rios is known by her Shipibo name, Inin Kena, a beautiful expression that means “covering the patient’s body with a beautiful smell.” She carries the living spirit of the Shipibo-Konibo people from the Ucayali region of Pucallpa, Peru.
Her path with healing began in 2003, when she first encountered Ayahuasca. Two years later, in 2005, she completed her first dieta with Aypana, a bush recognized for its abundant flowers and fragrant aroma. That experience marked the start of a 12-year journey as a healer, during which she has honored the wisdom passed down by her ancestors and grandmothers, guardians of the ancient knowledge of Ayahuasca.
Maestra Karina’s understanding of healing is firmly grounded in the traditions of her people. She serves as a voice for indigenous women, reflecting their cultural values through the use of Ayahuasca medicine and other master plants. Her approach reaches beyond modern pharmaceutical systems, creating a bridge to both the spiritual and physical dimensions through time-honored practices.
Committed to protecting and renewing the heritage of the Shipibo people, Maestra Karina is also the founder of the Isa Weni project. This meaningful initiative is focused on building a school in the Amazon for the children of her community. Isa Weni is designed to help Shipibo children grow with a strong connection to their ancestral culture, while also welcoming foreigners who wish to learn more about Shipibo traditions and ways of life. The project reflects her dedication not only to healing, but also to education, cultural preservation, and sustainability.
Alongside her knowledge of indigenous healing, Maestra Karina has also studied psychology. This combination supports thoughtful, meaningful conversations about healing and Shipibo culture with guests, enriching their understanding and overall experience.
At Soltara Healing Center, Maestra Karina brings deep wisdom and experience to the team of Shipibo healers. Her teachings and artwork express the cosmovision of her people through visual representations of Shipibo-Konibo songs and energy. It is a privilege to welcome her as both a healer and a guide.
