The first yoga class I remember took place in high school, in a dim room at the local recreation center. I wore socks, and the teacher kindly pointed out that I probably shouldn’t. It was a little embarrassing, but it was also the moment I realized how much I loved yoga. Just as importantly, I knew I never wanted anyone to feel ashamed for showing up exactly as they are. So yes, you’re welcome to wear socks in my class.
After practicing on and off for years, I became a certified yoga teacher in 2017. By then, I had experienced more than enough unwelcoming studios and teachers, and I knew I wanted to create something different. That led me to open my own studio, The Yoga Casa (TYC).
At TYC, I welcomed people of every shape and size. It was a safe haven for yogis, and I loved nurturing that community for five beautiful years. When the studio closed, I followed my next calling and returned to my roots in social work. With my Bachelor’s degree as a foundation, I became a feminist coach, helping women step into the confidence and self-trust I know they already possess.
At home, life is full and lively with seven other beings: my husband, my mom, my three wonderful kids, our dog, and our cat. It’s a busy household, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. When I’m not chasing kids around, you’ll likely find me listening to an audiobook for my monthly book club, enjoying plenty of hot drinks, laughing along with “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me,” or walking the dog through the tree-lined neighborhood of Fort Worth, where we live.
I joined the team at Retreat in the Pines after attending a retreat myself. The experience was filled with rest, relaxation, and joy. Sitting on the porch, listening to the wind in the trees, and connecting with other women gave me exactly what I needed. It was deeply healing, uplifting, and essential. I can’t wait to help create that same kind of experience for you. See you soon in the pines.
