Leah grew up in a small community in Northern Alberta, Canada, in a cabin on remote land. Her childhood was shaped by an off-grid life close to the wilderness and the changing seasons, with daily work on the Light family farm, caring for animals, and helping with her family’s organic vegetable growing and sales business, Northern Light Produce Network. At 14, she became seriously ill, an experience that unknowingly opened the door to a lifelong path of learning, growth, and healing.
In 2004, Leah relocated from Alberta to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where she met a master healer rooted in the Five Elements acupuncture tradition. He became a teacher, friend, and mentor for many years until his passing in 2021. His treatments marked the beginning of a deep release of illness and blockages in Leah’s life, and through that process she began to understand soul-level healing and what it means to move toward wholeness. During this period, she also worked as a tree planter and held other roles in the forestry industry, while earning certification as a Community Support Worker. She later spent several years supporting people living with physical, mental, and cognitive health challenges.
Leah first sat in ceremony with Ayahuasca in 2014, and that initial experience brought immediate further healing. Not long after, she began dieting master plants in the Shipibo tradition in both Canada and Peru. These plant dietas opened new pathways for transformation and growth, while physical pain and long-standing issues connected to her early illness continued to ease. In 2018, Leah began facilitating ceremonies at a Shipibo healing center near Iquitos, Peru, where she worked on and off until 2022. She joined Soltara as a facilitator in October 2023. Alongside her ceremony work in Peru, she studied at Pacific Rim College in Victoria, British Columbia, and graduated with a diploma in acupuncture in 2023.
As a plant medicine facilitator, Leah brings together a lifetime of connection to nature, her years of learning with her Five Elements teacher, her plant dietas, and her experience supporting guests and clients both inside and outside the Ayahuasca medicine space. Her own healing journey after illness continues to shape her work, lending it depth, compassion, and sensitivity. She believes that every person carries a purpose, unique gifts, and the inner strength to meet their challenges and discover their own answers. Leah feels deeply honored to witness, guide, and accompany others on their healing journeys. She remains in awe of nature and the plants, and of their power to heal body and soul while helping us live more joyfully within the ever-unfolding web of life.
Outside of work, Leah can often be found rock climbing, walking, meditating in nature, or spending time with friends by the river. From 2010 to 2014, she skated as a Pivot, Blocker, and Jammer with the Nanaimo Nemesis and Brass Knuckle Derby Dames roller derby teams.
