Description

About Leah Hokanson

Leah Hokanson has spent her life exploring sound and listening in many forms—as a classical pianist, vocalist, choral director, improviser, and singer-songwriter. Today, she facilitates programs that invite vocal sounding and deep listening as vibrational pathways to healing and wholeness. She lives on Gabriola Island, BC, in a place of natural beauty, and expresses gratitude for her community and for the Coast Salish people, especially the Snuneymuxw First Nation.

Experience & Collaborations

Throughout her journey, Leah has had the joy and privilege of working with leading voices in vocal improvisation and vocal sound healing, including Chloé Goodchild, David Hatfield, Jill Purce, Rhiannon, and Karina Schelde. Her work is also shaped by the teachings of David Bohm, Carl Jung, Krishnamurti, Mary Oliver, Pauline Oliveros, Alan Watts, and others.

Music & Projects

Leah writes, produces, and performs her own music. In 2019, she released Facets, her first album of original songs. She has also composed and recorded two volumes of chants, known as Diamond Chants, featuring musical interpretations of ecstatic poetry by Rumi, Hafiz, Hildegard of Bingen, Mirabai, and others, created in joyful collaboration with the Song Keepers Women’s Choir (Gabriola) and the Fabulous Fufonics (First Unitarian Fellowship of Nanaimo).

Current Work

Leah is honoured to be collaborating with Lynette Jackson on Vibrational Belonging and Wholeness.
