I am a mother of three daughters and a trained nurse. In 2013, I made a life-changing decision to leave my position at Landspítalinn and begin an inner journey. That marked the start of a deep search for myself and my true purpose. My interest in a healthy, green lifestyle led me to study at Heilsumeistaraskólinn, where I met a wonderful friend who introduced me to yoga at Yoga Shala. In 2014, I attended my first Vinyasa class with Ingibjörg Stefánsdóttir, and it became an important turning point on my path. The experience was unique, and yoga, meditation, and deep relaxation have since brought me greater balance and well-being. My yoga practice has grown steadily, along with increased physical and mental strength, better focus, and more stamina.
At the end of 2016, I graduated as a Yoga Nidra teacher from the Amrit Yoga Institute, a Yoga Alliance-recognized training. I teach the Amrit Method of Yoga Nidra, a lying-down guided meditation and deep relaxation practice. This method helps quiet the mind, turn inward, and let go. At present, I am studying to become a yoga teacher at Yoga Shala and will graduate with 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification at the end of September 2017. I have also attended various courses and workshops that have all strengthened my practice and given me great inspiration, including those led by Lucas Rockwood and Mark Robberds.
As a nurse, I have worked in many areas at Landspítalinn, mainly in emergency and intensive care nursing. I have also worked and studied at Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm. Through my nursing career, I have seen how stress and lifestyle can negatively affect both mental and physical health. I am convinced that yoga in any form can support greater well-being and offer real health benefits. My dream is to see yoga, meditation, and deep relaxation used more widely within the healthcare systems of the future. I hope that dream will come true.
