Born in 1981 into a distinguished Tibetan Buddhist family of accomplished masters, Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche carries forward a remarkable lineage of spiritual realization spanning seven incarnations. With a dynamic presence and a warm, approachable manner, he embodies a living tradition rooted in profound and far-reaching practice.
Rinpoche is one of the throne-holders of the Riwoche Taklung Kagyu lineage and a lineage holder of the Profound Treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa from the Nyingma School of Early Translations. Recognized by the Kagyu regents and ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he began his traditional Buddhist education at a very young age under some of the most respected enlightened lamas of our time. He later continued his studies at the Dzongsar Institute of Advanced Buddhist Studies in Bir, India. After several years, he returned his monastic ordination and married in order to continue his family line.
Today, Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche serves as the Vajra Master of Ka-Nying Shedrup Ling Monastery, abbot of several monasteries in Nepal, and supports monasteries and practice centers in Tibet. He also leads dharma centers across North America and Asia, and teaches extensively at centers in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia. In addition, he directs the Chokgyur Lingpa Foundation, through which he oversees a wide range of humanitarian projects in South Asia.
Rinpoche’s teachings are direct, energetic, and highly practical, with a strong emphasis on the Great Perfection, the uncontrived non-conceptual meditation of Mahamudra, the sustained practice of the Bodhisattva path, and the Mahayana teachings on wisdom and compassion. He consistently returns attention to the root of the Buddha’s sutras and the treatises of the great Indian masters. In support of this vision, he also oversees the translation and printing of several sutras, treatises, and other dharma texts.
