
Karen DeTemple is the President of Workwonder, which she launched in June 2020 to support individuals, leaders, and organizations in doing their best work. With 30 years of experience in growing organizations, building fundraising programs, activating leadership, engaging donors, and guiding strategic execution, she helps clients recognize obstacles and move beyond them, whether large or small.
From 2015 to 2019, she co-founded The Art of Change, an international consultancy centered on fundraising strategy and audience development within the art world. Her selected clients included ArtTable, Boston Center for the Arts, CHART Art Fair, EXPO Chicago, Finnish Cultural Institute in New York, Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, and SITE Santa Fe.
Between 2005 and 2015, Karen served as President of Karen DeTemple Consulting, where her work focused on fundraising consulting and fundraising event planning for a wide range of prominent clients, including AIDS Action Committee, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Massachusetts College of Art and Biography Design, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.
Before entering consulting, Karen spent more than a decade working as a fundraiser for some of the country’s most respected cultural institutions, including the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; the Exploratorium, San Francisco; The Joffrey Ballet, Chicago; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.
Karen has shared her expertise at the Social Innovation Forum in Boston, Massachusetts, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City, RAISE: The Event Fundraising Conference in Chicago, Women in Development in Boston, Massachusetts, and The Art World Conference in New York City. Her work has also been featured in Forbes, Alliance Magazine, Girlboss, and a range of Boston-based publications.
Karen earned a degree in Communications and Art History from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
