Kami Liddle has been immersed in dance since the age of four, training in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and hip hop. After a short period working as a musician, she returned to dance at 18 and began studying cabaret-style belly dance before discovering her true passion through improvisational belly dance with Fat Chance Belly Dance. Kami earned a B.A. in Art with a Minor in Dance from the University of Nevada, Reno.
In 2005, Kami auditioned for and was invited to join Bellydance Superstars (BDSS), a professionally touring belly dance company produced by music industry legend Miles Copeland, known for managing and producing acts such as The Police, Billy Idol, and The Bangles. She began as a principal dancer and quickly advanced to soloist and contributing choreographer. By 2007, she became Director of Tribal Superstars, the tribal fusion belly dance ensemble within BDSS, while continuing to expand her solo career through international performances and workshop teaching. Over nearly six years with BDSS, she toured in 18 countries and performed for audiences including the Prince of Monaco and the Consul General of Morocco. Seven of her internationally toured choreographies have also been featured on PBS.
In 2010, Kami left BDSS to focus fully on her solo artistic path and to collaborate with dancer and musician Zoe Jakes and Beats Antique, a musical group known for blending live dance and performance into multimedia shows and music videos. She toured the United States with Beats Antique for two years, appearing at major venues and festivals including Lollapalooza in Chicago, The Staples Center in Los Angeles, Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park, and the Fillmore in San Francisco. Her dancing also appears in the music videos “Revival” and “Cat Skillz.”
In 2012, Kami stepped away from Beats Antique to meet ongoing demand for solo performances and workshops around the world. Since then, she has been welcomed in more than 30 countries as both a performer and teacher.
To fully express her artistic vision and make the most of her creative range, Kami returned to group choreography. In early 2013, she brought together five colleagues from some of the Bay Area’s leading belly dance companies to form Gold Star Dance Company. Together, they explored the meeting point of this dynamic and ever-evolving dance form with jazz, modern, hip hop, and classical ballet. In 2018, Kami introduced Krysalis, a four-part dance program designed to support each dancer’s individual journey by offering the tools to develop authentic movement and a personal artistic voice through an in-depth study of contemporary belly dance.
