Jisho Lisa Beth Hoffman is devoted to bringing Zen and mindfulness into everyday life in a way that feels practical, grounded, and relevant. She has practiced Zen Buddhism since 1995. In 2008, she was ordained as a priest at San Francisco Zen Center by the late Darlene Cohen and Tony Patchell, and she received dharma transmission from Tony in 2013.
Through the Great Compassion Sangha she founded, Lisa offers classes, works one-on-one with students, and leads retreats in the San Francisco Bay Area and online. She is also a teacher with San Francisco Zen Center, where she gives dharma talks, leads workshops, and serves on a team facilitating courses and workshops in the Transforming Depression and Anxiety program. In addition, she founded the Women's Heart Sangha and now serves as its consulting teacher for mature women committed to living with awareness and compassion.
The Great Compassion Sangha honors Darlene and Tony, whose dharma names are Great Spirit Manifesting Dharma and Luminous Compassion Joyous Path. Lisa remains deeply grateful for their generosity of heart, mind, and spirit, and she continues to honor the dharma name Darlene gave her: Compassion Song Buddha Heart/Mind.
As a coach, facilitator, and consultant in the nonprofit sector, Lisa brings Zen and mindfulness into her work with individuals and organizations. Her Mindfulness in the Workplace workshops include Mindful Leadership, Communication in the Workplace, Relationships in the Workplace, The Zen of Meetings, Mindfully Managing Stress, and more.
Lisa's Zen training includes priest training at Russian River Zendo and San Francisco Zen Center, along with advanced studies at the Shogaku Zen Institute.
